Farheen Kothiwala

I recently completed my BSc in Psychology and physiology and I’m currently working through my honours in physiology! My interests lie in neuroscience, particularly neurological and neurodegenerative disorders, mechanisms of disease and treatments and throughout my undergrad I tried taking many neuro-related papers. I am working under the supervision of Associate professor Debbie Young and Dr Angela Wu where my project focuses on a bit of neuropharmacology, particularly GLUN1 antibody-mediated effects in aged mice. Our study focuses on the NMDA receptor in the brain, and the effects of GLUN1 antibodies - whether they have implications for neurodegenerative diseases, ageing or more!

Johanes Kevin Kasim (Kevin)

I am currently a third year PhD under the supervision of D/Prof. Dame Margaret Brimble. My project is to undertake the chemical synthesis and biological characterisation of anticancer peptides, which has exposed me to contemporary techniques in peptide chemistry and molecular biology. Prior to my PhD, I completed a BSc and PGDip in Biomedical Science, as well as an MBiomedSc (Master of Biomedical Science). I look forward to sharing a little of my journey thus far with everyone, and hopefully also attract your interest in doing a postgraduate study with the Brimble group!

Joseph Chen

Joseph is currently a PhD candidate in neuroimaging and psychopharmacology investigating antimuscarinic contributions to major depressive disorder and better understanding the pathophysiology underlying depression. Prior to his PhD, Joseph completed a BSc (Biomedical Science), PGDipSc (Biomedical Science), and MBiomedSc all at the University of Auckland. In his spare time, he likes to sleep.

Madeline Cleveland

Hi! My name is Madeline and I'm completing my PGDip in Biomedicine this year with hopes of moving forward to a Masters (at some point!). I completed my undergraduate in Sciences, majoring in Biomedicine where I found my passion for Infection and Immunity. I chose this pathway for my second and third years, and am furthering my understanding of immunology through my postgraduate studies. This year has allowed me to explore my interests and hone into different research niches.

Erena Calder Hawkins

Hi my name is Erena Calder Hawkins and I graduated from the University of Waikato with BSc Majoring in Biotechnology and Biochemistry in 2019. I am currently completing my Masters in Bioscience Enterprise at the University of Auckland. Bioscience Enterprise gives you a hands-on approach to research commercialisation through expert speakers and an industry based internship. I am passionate about agritech and food technology, and how New Zealand can better support agrifoodtech research commercialisation.
